In Loving Memory of Debby Kay Horton (Choquette)
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debby Kay Horton, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at her home on May 3, 2026, following a brief illness. Born on January 8, 1955, in Bloomfield, New Mexico, Debby was a beacon of warmth and love to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Debby was the beloved daughter of James Richard Choquette and Monazelle Choquette (Shockley), who predeceased her, along with her brothers James and Johnny Choquette, her sister Sharon Hines, and her cherished children, Christopher and Audra Horton. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Dwayne "Porkey" Horton, with whom she shared a life filled with unwavering love and countless memories since their marriage on December 27, 1972, in Farmington, New Mexico.
Together, Debby and Porkey raised a beautiful family, nurturing their surviving children: Jennifer Griffith, Keith (and Alicia) Horton, Jeremy Horton, Nicholas (and Jiao) Horton, and Corey Horton. The joy of her life extended to her 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and cherished deeply.
A dedicated homemaker, Debby found immense joy in building a welcoming home not only for her family but for all the children her own kids brought home. Her home was a sanctuary of laughter, love, and acceptance, a place where everyone felt like family. Known for her love, laughter, and remarkable calmness in chaos, Debby was a gentle soul who touched the lives of many. Her ability to spread joy and maintain serenity in the face of life's challenges was truly a gift.
Debby had a passion for life's simple pleasures, from riding motorcycles with Porkey to decorating her home for the holidays with a flair that made every occasion special. Her love for traveling broadened her horizons, enriching her life with experiences and stories that she shared generously. Yet, her greatest calling was the role of a mother and a nurturer, a role she embraced with boundless love and dedication.
A celebration of Debby's life will be held on May 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield, New Mexico, located at 200 W Sycamore Ave. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Debby's kindness and grace are invited to join in honoring her remarkable life.
Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find solace in the abundant memories she left behind. Debby's legacy of love, resilience, and laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman who will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her spirit continue to inspire all who knew her.
