Dean Edward Sorensen

November 17, 1942 — October 18, 2026

Dean Edward Sorensen, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and St. John's staff. Born on November 17, 1942, to Einer and Frieda Sorensen, Dean lived a life full of dedication, warmth, and service. In his early years, Dean proudly served his country in the Marine Corps, where he met his beloved wife, JoAnn Sheehan, while stationed in Arlington, Virginia. The two shared an unbreakable bond and were united in marriage on January 16, 1967, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington. Their love story was a testament to their commitment and shared values, and together they built a beautiful life filled with family, faith, and community. Dean's professional journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling. He began his career as a draftsman at Streaters but eventually returned to his first love—farming, a vocation he pursued for over two decades. When his health necessitated a change, he embraced a new role as a rural mail carrier, a position that allowed him to enjoy the serene countryside views he so loved. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. As an active member of the Alden Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dean served diligently on the church council and various committees, always eager to contribute to his community. His passion for service extended beyond the church; he was a proud member of the Alden Lions Club, where he played a vital role in numerous fundraisers. A spirited competitor, he captained his Dartball League team, earning several trophies as a high scorer. Dean's interests were as vibrant as his personality. He took great joy in decorating his home for every holiday, delighting in lighting up the Northside of Alden. A proud American, he collected Bald Eagle pictures and statues, symbols of his patriotism and service. His collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia was a testament to his appreciation for nostalgia, and he found solace in the timeless melodies of classic country singers like Red Sovine and Jim Reeves. Family was the heart of Dean's world. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, Dawn (Dale) Armstrong, Diane (Melissa Phelps) Sorensen, and Shawn (Tonya) Sorensen, and his cherished granddaughter, Samantha (Kale Danielson) Armstrong. Dean is also survived by his siblings, Donald (Yvonne) Sorensen, Dorothy (Bob) Johnson, David (Jo) Sorensen, and Darlene Sorensen, family friend Nate Phelps, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and an extended family who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his beloved JoAnn, his parents, his in-laws Joseph and Lucille Sheehan, and several cherished family members. Dean's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at St. John's Woodland facility, St. Croix Hospice, and all those who offered their support through visits, cards, calls, and prayers. In honor of Dean's love for his country and sports, the family invites those attending his visitation or funeral to wear their favorite sports team shirt or something patriotic. Dean Edward Sorensen will be remembered for his welcoming smile, his readiness to lend a helping hand, and the profound love he held for his family and community. His spirit will continue to illuminate the lives of those who knew him, much like the lights he so loved to display.
