Dawn (Emmel) Grund
April 4, 1959 — May 1, 2026
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Dawn (Emmel) Grund on May 1, 2026. Born on April 4, 1959, in St. Paul, MN, Dawn was a beacon of strength and warmth, who filled her 67 years with love, laughter, and unparalleled compassion. She left this world as she lived in it—surrounded by the love of her family—after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dawn was the cherished daughter of the late Donald and Bernadine (Zenz) Emmel. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, and her ex-husband Bob, who all held special places in her heart. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Mikayla Ruedebusch, and her son-in-law Justin, whose love and happiness were the light of her life. Dawn was the proud grandmother of a precious grandbaby, whose future she dreamed of in vibrant colors. Her sisters, Kathy Meehan (Jim), Cheri Emmel (John), and Sandy Dietzmann (Ron), were her lifelong confidantes and friends. Many cousins, extended family, and a wide circle of friends and neighbors will dearly miss her presence.
Dawn's professional journey was defined by her unwavering dedication to service. For 35 years, she worked with Ramsey County Human Services, where her compassion and commitment made a lasting impact on countless lives. Her work was more than just a career; it was a testament to her character and her deep-seated belief in the power of kindness and support.
An animal lover through and through, Dawn found immense joy and solace in the company of her beloved dog Elle, two cherished cats, and the various animals she nurtured on her quaint hobby farm. Her connection with animals was profound, and she took pride in caring for her horses, goats, and many pets over the years. Her garden was a sanctuary, where she spent countless hours tending to her plants and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends.
The annual family trips to Big Birch Lake were a tradition that Dawn held dear. These trips, filled with floating, fishing, morning coffees, and boundless laughter, created treasured memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who shared them with her. Her love for the outdoors and planting beautiful flowers brought color and vibrancy to her life and those around her.
Dawn's strength was matched only by her compassion. She lived an independent life, facing challenges with resilience and a caring heart that touched everyone she met. Her bond with her daughter and son-in-law was profound, as was the connection she shared with her sisters. Her spirit, warmth, and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A service and celebration of Dawn's life will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, her family cherishes the outpouring of love and support from all who knew her.
In honoring Dawn's memory, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives, the warmth of her embrace, and the light she shared so generously with the world. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy of love and compassion will never fade.
