Davis James Cox

August 26, 1956 — October 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Davis James Cox, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on October 30, 2026, at the age of 70. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 26, 1956, Davis was the beloved son of the late Joshua and Hilda Cox, and the dear brother of Deacon Kenneth Cox and Minister Sharon Cox Ferguson. Davis grew up in Detroit, where he blossomed during his school years, excelling in track and field, baseball, and football, and winning numerous awards. Following his family's move to Miami, he graduated from Miami Central High School in June 1974 and went on to earn a degree in Finance from Miami Dade College. Professionally, Davis was known for his roles as a salesman at Burdines Downtown Department Store and as a plumber tech at Miami Shores Plumbing. Both roles showcased his dedication, work ethic, and ability to connect with people around him. A man of faith, Davis was a devoted member of the Church of God of Prophecy both in Detroit and Miami. His belief in community and family was at the core of his character, and his presence was a blessing to all who knew him. Davis was an avid reader, often found immersed in newspapers, magazines, and books, which enriched his understanding of the world. He was a kind and soft-spoken soul, yet strong-willed when it mattered most. Davis embraced life with a gentle heart, finding joy in the company of his family, particularly during holiday gatherings with his sister, niece, and nephews. Davis leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his brother, Deacon Kenneth Cox; sister, Minister Sharon Cox Ferguson; niece, Katrina Ferguson; nephews, Morris Ferguson Jr. and Stephen Ferguson; uncles, Alins Hanna and Ehud Hanna; aunts, Marilyn Lafleur and Dorothy Hanna; and a host of cousins, family, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. In honor of Davis's memory, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and his belief in the power of giving. As we remember Davis, let us celebrate a life well-lived, one that touched many hearts and left an indelible mark of kindness and strength. May he rest in peace, reunited with his parents and his sister, Janice Cox, in eternal love.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Davis James Cox welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
