It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of David Watson, who peacefully departed from this world on April 7, 2026, in the comfort of his home. Born on January 4, 1978, in Brooklyn, New York, David blessed us with 48 years of joy, laughter, and cherished memories. David was the beloved son of Fannie Mae Tann and Rosavelt Theodore Watson, who provided him with a nurturing and loving upbringing. He was predeceased by his cherished grandparents, Lena Mae Dickens-Tann and Claude Tann, and Sally Mae Watson and Wallace Watson, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms beyond this world. David's life was a testament to his unwavering love and dedication to his family. He is survived by his adoring children, Jalisa A. Watson, Tiyanna Watson, Kalissa Santiago, and Kimora Watson, who were the center of his world. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Harper Griffin and Saiur Griffin, who brought immense joy to his later years. As a brother, David shared an unbreakable bond with Fannie Watson-Sykes, alongside her husband, Raymond Sykes, and his brothers Preston Amaker and Theodore "Teddy" Watson. He was also a devoted uncle to a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. David's life was characterized by his vibrant spirit and infectious laughter. He was famously known as the "life of the party," a title he wore with pride as he brought joy and merriment wherever he went. Whether fishing, attending cookouts, or enjoying a day at the beach, David's zest for life and generous heart made him a cherished companion and friend to many. A proud graduate of Sarah J. Hale High School, David pursued his passion for plumbing and later embarked on a career at the Newport News Shipyard. Although his career was cut short due to disability, his work ethic and dedication left a lasting imprint on his colleagues and friends. David was also a talented boxer, showcasing his skills in tournaments at Madison Square Garden, and he carried the discipline and determination from the ring into all areas of his life. David was a proud member of the First Baptist Church in New York City, where his faith and community involvement provided him with strength and purpose. His hobbies included fishing, grilling, playing cards, and racing, pursuits that brought him immense joy and allowed him to share countless treasured moments with loved ones. A celebration of David's life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 2:30 PM at God Apostolic Church, located at 221 South Main Street. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the friends and family who supported David throughout his life and extends special thanks to the staff at Johnson’s Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this difficult time. In honoring David's memory, we remember the joy he brought into our lives and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear David; your light will never dim in our hearts.
