David Scott Logan, Jr.

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of David Scott Logan, Jr., who left this world on March 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer, at the age of 72. David was born on January 29, 1954, in Chicago, IL, to the late Golda Mae Hyatt and David Scott Logan, Sr. His life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to helping others. David's journey began in the vibrant streets of Chicago, where he cultivated a passion for service and community. He graduated from Bowen High School in 1972 and went on to attend Western Illinois University. His quest for knowledge and spiritual growth led him to complete his studies at Theology College, a path that laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to pastoral care and counseling. In the 1990s, David served as a dedicated fireman with the Chicago Fire Department, a role in which he demonstrated remarkable bravery and compassion. However, his calling extended beyond physical rescue; David's heart led him to counsel troubled youth and to serve as a pastor for his own church in the 2000s. His ministry reached those who were homeless, addicted, and downtrodden, offering them hope and guidance. David's early years were marked by his involvement with the Crerar Presbyterian Church, where he was a cherished member and a proud boy scout. His love for music was evident as he played the trumpet at Dixon Elementary School. These experiences shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of community service. Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, David was a man of many interests. He was an extra in movies filmed in Chicago and was in the funeral scene (with Robert De Niro) in the movie "Backdraft". He found joy in boxing and working out at the YMCA and along the beautiful lakefront, and he cherished moments spent with his beloved family. A passionate cyclist, David could often be found riding his bike, listening to music, and delighting in the simple pleasures of life. David is survived by his loving daughters, Angie (David), Chanelle, and Sara (Ed), who carry forward his legacy of love and compassion. His seven grandchildren brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Julie (Tim), Gilda (Paul), and Diane; and his caring nephews, Matthew and Jacob. David joins in eternal rest his parents, Golda Mae and David Scott Logan, Sr., and his nephew, Joshua Aaron Logan. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Chicago Hospital for their exceptional care and support during David's illness. David Scott Logan, Jr. will be remembered as a beacon of light and love, whose kindness touched countless lives. He leaves behind a legacy of hope, compassion, and unwavering faith. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
