It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of David "Davey" Porter Jr., a beloved father, cherished partner, and devoted friend to many, who peacefully left this world on April 21, 2026, at the age of 62. Surrounded by the comforting presence of his family at home, Davey embarked on his final journey, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. Born on August 25, 1962 Davey was the treasured son of David Porter Sr. and Shelby J. Porter. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of his family, learning the values of hard work and integrity from his parents and grandparents, the late Marvin E. Porter, Maggie Justice Porter, Edward Golf Farmer, and Maggie Francis Patrick. He carried these values throughout his life, inspiring those around him with his steadfast commitment to his loved ones. Davey shared a profound bond with his only love and devoted caregiver, Terry Porter. Together, they built a life rich in love and companionship, facing life's challenges hand in hand. Terry was not only his partner but his pillar of strength and the heart of their home. As a father, Davey was deeply proud and devoted to his children: Ricky Porter and his wife, Tabby; Becky Porter and her husband, Sonny; and Megan Brown and her husband, Mike. His love and guidance were constants in their lives, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Davey's legacy extends further to his 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Davey was a loving brother to Darrell Porter and his wife, Pam, and his sisters, Denise Dickerson and her husband, Mike, and Darla Riggs. The bond he shared with his siblings was one of shared laughter, mutual support, and treasured memories that will forever remain in their hearts. Throughout his career, Davey worked as a Millwright, among other roles, demonstrating an unmatched work ethic and a dedication to providing for his family until he became disabled. His colleagues remember him as a diligent worker and a man who always lent a helping hand. A man of Christian faith, Davey found solace and strength in his beliefs, which guided him through life's trials and triumphs. His faith was a testament to his unwavering spirit and kindness towards others. In his leisure time, Davey was an avid NASCAR racing enthusiast and a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders. His love for sports was surpassed only by his affection for animals, which he cherished dearly. Davey is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Marvin E. Porter and Maggie Justice Porter, his maternal grandparents, Edward Golf Farmer and Maggie Francis Patrick, his uncle Marvin E. Porter Jr., and his stepdaughter, Victoria Coleman. Their memories live on in the stories and love that Davey carried with him. As we say goodbye to Davey, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. A private service will be held to honor Davey's life, with details to be shared with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter, in keeping with Davey's deep love for animals. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he gave so freely in life.
