David Leroy Anderson Jr.

January 24, 1948 — July 10, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of David Leroy Anderson Jr., who left this world peacefully on July 10, 2026, at the age of 78. David was born on January 24, 1948, at Brewster Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late David Anderson Sr. and Thelma Anderson. David's life was a testament to devotion, resilience, and community. He graduated from Douglas Anderson High School in 1966, where he cultivated lifelong friendships, particularly with his cherished classmates from the Douglas Anderson Class of 1966. After high school, David proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, embodying the values of honor and dedication that would carry through his entire life. Following his military service, David embarked on a long and fulfilling career with Amtrak, from which he eventually retired. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his family and community. On May 3, 1993, David married the love of his life, Vontel Anderson, with whom he shared a beautiful journey marked by love, laughter, and mutual support. David was a devoted family man and is survived by his beloved spouse, Vontel; his children, Lakesha Burton (Greg), Marlena Anderson, and Eugene Sykes (Courtney); and his treasured grandchildren, John Anderson, Javaris Burton, David Burton, Javier Sykes, Kayla Forrest, Lavar Brown, Aniya Brown, Khalani Copeland, Andrea Anderson, John Anderson Jr., and Kaylee Anderson. He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly McGriff, Maureen Hartley (Herbert), and Marcia Bronner (Nathaniel Sr.); his uncles, Nathaniel Mobley Sr. and Rueben Mobley; and his aunts, Alberta Spiller and Sadie. David's extended family includes many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Preceding him in death are his cherished daughter, Latesha Wright; his parents, David Sr. and Thelma Anderson; and his siblings, Maurice Anderson, Leroy Graham, Eric Anderson, and Elizabeth (Joyce Chatman). David was an active and longstanding member of Hopewell Church under the leadership of Dr. Gary L. Williams, Sr., where he served as a Deacon since 1994. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, and he was a pillar of strength and support within his church community. In addition to his spiritual commitments, David was a passionate fisherman who could often be found casting lines and enjoying the serenity of the water. He also enjoyed bowling, tennis, and never missed an episode of his favorite television show, Judge Judy. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the DaVita Dialysis Staff for their compassionate care and support, as well as to the Deacon Doe Family Group who stood by David during his journey. In accordance with David's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in David's honor. David Leroy Anderson Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and community. He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
