David Howard Selig

David Howard Selig Sr. a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 1, 1951, in Huntington, Indiana, David was the beloved son of Howard and Joan Selig, who predeceased him. His life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family. David married the love of his life, Susan L. Pape, on June 5, 1971, and together they built a beautiful life with over 55 years of marriage. They raised three devoted sons, David Jr. (JoAnna Bailey), Douglas (Hallie Stouder), and Christopher (Carlee Hedrick), who each carry forward their father’s legacy of love and kindness. Dave and Susie are blessed with four treasured grandchildren: Bryant (Faith), Olivia, Kendyll, and Karter. Dave's legacy lives on in each of them, as well as in his siblings, Sharon Betz, Sondra (Roy) Cason, Kevin (Ivy) Selig, and Renee (Rox) Cartwright. A proud alumnus of Huntington Catholic High School, Class of 1969, David embarked on a distinguished career in the printing industry that spanned 45 remarkable years. He began as a journeyman pressman at Our Sunday Visitor, eventually transitioning to management. He concluded his professional career as the plant manager at Messenger in Auburn, IN. Dave was not only a dedicated professional but also a man of vast interests and passions. He was a voracious reader, a dedicated weightlifter, and a lover of his lake life. His enthusiasm extended to sports, where he passionately followed Purdue basketball, the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame Football. Dave found immense joy in coaching Little and Pony league baseball, imparting life lessons and love for the game to many young athletes. Above all, Dave was a devoted and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the center of his universe, and he spent countless happy hours boating and creating cherished memories with his children and grandchildren. His warmth, humor, and kindness touched all who knew him. In keeping with Dave's wishes, there will not be a traditional funeral service. Instead, a celebration of his life will be planned for a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor the incredible man he was. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dave's memory to a charity of your choice. David Howard Selig's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and kindness. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
