Garth, as he was fondly known, was the cherished son of Thomas Melvin and Mary Juanita Hemming and was a beacon of warmth and humor to all who knew him. Garth's journey through life was filled with love and companionship. He was blessed with three marriages, each bringing unique joy and fulfillment to his life. His first love, Janis L. Williams, became his wife on March 20, 1959, in the sacred Logan Temple. Together, they built a beautiful family and life until her passing. He later found love again with Loella Curtis, whom he married on February 14, 2002, and with whom he shared cherished years until her passing as well. In his later years, Garth was again fortunate to find companionship with Maryetta Mumford, marrying her on June 17, 2020. Garth's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his children: Jeffrey, Christina, Cassandra, Jessica, and Jared, as well as an ever-growing legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family, both immediate and extended, was a testament to his nurturing spirit and the unconditional love he shared with them. A proud graduate of Blackfoot High School, Garth was known for his work ethic and dedication. He began his career as a furniture salesman at Lundstrom Furniture in Logan, Utah. His skills and passion for building led him to work with Home Inc., where he helped construct homes, a job that he took immense pride in. Ultimately, he found his calling as a carpentry foreman at Utah State University, where his craftsmanship and leadership were highly valued. Garth was a devoted and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he served with honor in numerous callings, holding both stake and ward leadership positions. His genuine love for his community and church was evident in his service and dedication. Beyond his work and faith, Garth was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for basketball and track. His love for travel took him to many corners of the world, enriching his life with diverse experiences and friendships. Garth's quick wit and warm smile were his trademarks, always ready with a joke to lift spirits and a gift for making everyone feel welcome. His presence was a source of joy and comfort, and his genuine love for friends and fun was evident throughout his life. A service celebrating the life of David Garth Hemming will be held on November 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nibley 7th Ward Chapel, located at 360 West 3200 South. May his memory serve as a guiding light and a reminder of the warmth and joy he brought into this world.
