David Gardner

June 6, 1961 — June 19, 2026

In loving memory, we celebrate the life of David Gardner, who passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on June 6, 1961, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David was a beacon of light and compassion, whose presence touched the hearts of all who knew him. David was the cherished son of Patricia and Albert Gardner, who instilled in him the values of kindness and perseverance. He was predeceased by his beloved husband, David Mensing, with whom he shared 25 wonderful years. Their journey began in 1998 in the serene beauty of Hawaii and was solemnized on June 19, 2014. Together, they crafted a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect until David Mensing's passing in 2022. David's educational journey commenced at West Mifflin North High, from which he graduated in 1979. He further pursued his passion for learning at Robert Morris College, earning an Associate Degree in Arts. Professionally, David wore many hats, initially serving as a flight attendant with USAir and later embracing the world of real estate with Coldwell Banker and Re/Max. However, it was his role as a Senior Peer Specialist at WPIC at the Mercy site that truly defined his career. David's dedication and passion for helping those struggling with substance use disorders left an indelible mark on many lives. His work was not only a profession but a calling, earning him numerous accolades and the deep appreciation of those he helped. David was a proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found and provided support, sponsoring others and attending meetings with unwavering dedication. His quick wit, radiant smile, and ability to engage in meaningful conversations made him a cherished friend and confidant to many. He was known for his passion in defending important causes and was never shy about articulating his beliefs. David is survived by his loving brother, Tim Gardner, and wife Donna Thomas; his devoted sister, Loriann (Gardner) Palmer, and husband Donald Palmer. He leaves behind his cherished nephews, Brandon Gardner and wife Jena, Elliot (Damian) Gardner, Tanner Gardner, Brian Palmer, and Henry Palmer, as well as his great-niece and nephew, Brixton and Finley Gardner, who will carry forward his legacy of compassion and strength. A funeral service to honor David's life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Savolskis Funeral Home, located at 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA, 15120. The Gardner family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Kimberly Fair and her staff for providing unwavering support and a stable environment during this difficult time. In celebrating David's life, we remember him as a devoted husband, a compassionate friend, and a true champion for those in need. His spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. Rest in peace, dear David; your love and light will forever guide us.
