In Loving Memory

David Francis
June 27, 1949 — August 19, 2026
David Francis, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly due to a medical complication on August 19, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on June 27, 1949, in Missouri, David lived a life full of service, love, and dedication to his family and community.
David was the cherished son of the late William Francis and Lulia Inez Underwood. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Penny Francis, with whom he shared a loving marriage that was blessed with three children. Together, they raised their family in Kansas City, Missouri, in a home that became a haven for their numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A proud graduate of Raytown South High School, class of 1968, David went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Navy. Over the course of his 20-year military career, he served in the Vietnam War and achieved the prestigious rank of Chief Petty Officer. His dedication to his country was matched by his commitment to his work at the Kansas City, MO Health Department, where he made significant contributions for over two decades until his retirement in 2011.
David's life was rich with interests and passions that brought joy to those around him. An avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, he could often be found cheering on his favorite team. He found peace and fulfillment tending to his vegetable garden and relished every opportunity to spend time with his great-grandchildren, whether it was participating in their activities or simply sharing stories and laughter.
Known for his selflessness and unwavering support, David took great pride in ensuring his family was both provided for and cared for. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, dropping everything at a moment's notice to support those in need.
David is survived by his loving siblings, Sandra Yates, Billie Campbell, and Joseph Francis. He leaves behind his children: sons David Francis II, Daniel Francis, and daughter Lisa Carter. His legacy will continue through his cherished grandchildren: Daniel Francis, Justin Francis, Keilee Carter, Jeremiah Carter, Amber Bowman, Tyler Evans, Joshua Carter, and Joseph Carter, along with numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members who will remember him fondly.
A service to honor and celebrate David's life will be held on August 26, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Valor-Brown Funeral Service, located at 30000 Valor Drive, Grain Valley, MO 64029.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David's memory to a charity of your choice. David Francis will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for his kindness, his dedication, and the profound impact he made on the lives of those who were fortunate to know him.
