It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of David Ernest Freeman on May 18, 2026, at the age of 67. To most known as Dave. Born on March 9, 1959, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dave was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his humility, humor, and unwavering dedication.
Dave was the cherished son of Yvonne and Maydelle Freeman and was later lovingly raised by his stepfather, Lester Maynard. He is now reunited in eternal peace with them, as well as his dear sister, Deborah Wright, and brother, Donald Freeman.
Dave's legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Melissa, with whom he shared six wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy and adventure, often traveling around central Indiana to catch performances by their favorite band, Stella Luna and the Satellites, and attending numerous football and basketball games at New Palestine and Mt. Vernon. Their bond was a testament to love's enduring power, a partnership marked by laughter, shared passions, and an unwavering commitment to one another.
Dave was the proud father of Christine Kirchner (Freeman) and her husband, Brendan, and Michael Freeman and his wife, Regina. He was also a loving stepfather to Brittany Jones and her husband, Jacob, and step-sons Ryne Keough and Anthony Keough. Also survived by half brother Brian Freeman, niece Heather (Wright) Dewees husband Dustin. Mother-in-law and father-in-law Larry and Sue Gilpin and 7 nieces and 3 nephew's whom all will miss him dearly.
His greatest joy came from his role as a grandfather to three treasured grandchildren, whom he adored and who will forever hold his memory close.
A graduate of Warren Central High School in 1977, Dave dedicated 46 years to his career as a grocery clerk at Kroger. His work ethic and dedication were admired by colleagues and customers alike. Beyond his professional life, Dave was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, often found on weekends enjoying whatever sporting events were on TV, a pastime he delighted in sharing with family and friends.
David was a pillar of Heather Hills Baptist Church, where he was an active and valued member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee and the Missions Committee. His faith and service were central to his life, guiding him with a quiet strength and a commitment to helping others.
Known for his reserved demeanor, David had a remarkable ability to spark joy with his quick wit and well-timed jokes. His humor and warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew him, and his kindness and generosity will be remembered by many.
A celebration of David's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Heather Hills Baptist Church, located at 1421 N German Church Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory may be made to Heather Hills Baptist Church, an organization close to his heart.
Dave's life was a testament to love, family, and faith. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind and the indelible mark he made on our hearts. His legacy of devotion and love will continue to inspire us all.
