It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Collins, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. David left this world peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 71. He was born on December 5, 1954, in Staten Island, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. David’s educational journey began at P.S. 17 and P.S. 31, leading to his graduation from Curtis High School on Staten Island. His career was defined by dedication and hard work. He began his professional life in maintenance at the St. George Theatre, where he cultivated a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his career. David dedicated 15 years to St. Vincent's Hospital, providing care and comfort to those in need. He then spent another 15 years at the College of Staten Island, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. David was the cherished son of the late Helen Gumbs-Collins and Thomas Mitchel Collins, who welcomed him into the world with love. He joins in eternal rest his brother Ronald Collins and sister Beverly Sargent-Collins. David’s legacy is carried forward by his devoted children: David Stewart, Falisha Collins, Sharon Collins, Shantel Collins, and Jihad Collins. He also leaves behind his dear siblings, Patricia Calland, Thomas Collins, Kevin Collins, and Gregory Collins, along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and was blessed to see the smiles of his 2 great-grandchildren. Beyond his professional life, David was a man of vibrant personality and passions. His love for music, particularly the timeless sounds of Motown oldies, was infectious, and his joyful spirit brought happiness to every gathering. David’s warm smile and love for dance created cherished memories for all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of family and friends alike. A service to celebrate David’s The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shown love, support, and acts of kindness during this difficult time.
