July 25, 1956 — April 26, 2026
David Charles Bennett, a beloved partner, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away suddenly on April 26, 2026, at the age of 69. His untimely departure from this world due to a massive heart attack has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him. He was born on July 25, 1956, in Charlotte, Michigan, and was the treasured son of the late Elmer and Joan Shaw Bennett.
David's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to family, community, and the pursuit of knowledge. A proud graduate of Charlotte High School in 1975, he furthered his education at The Ohio Institute of Technology, where he completed his Bachelor of Electronics Engineering Technology Degree in December 1978. He is a recently retired Software Engineer from Extron Electronics. His intelligence and dedication to his craft were evident throughout his career, and his work ethic touched the lives of many.
David shared an enduring love with his partner of 14 years, Elizabeth Dale Christy McDade, of Wake Forest. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and mutual respect. He was a devoted father to his loving daughters, Stephanie Bennett of Los Angeles, CA, and Elizabeth, affectionately known as Liz Bennett of Conway, SC. His grandson, Lucas Bennett of Conway, SC, was the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with him. David also leaves behind his former wife, Gail Bennett of Conway, SC, and his extended family, including his fiancée's daughter and granddaughter, Mallory and Ashlynn McDade.
David's generous spirit extended beyond his family to his community. He was actively involved in area ministries, attending a weekly Bible study and an online Bible study with extended family and friends. His commitment to service was reflected in his volunteer work with Hospice and Grace Ministries USA, where he made a significant impact with his kindness and compassion.
An avid lover of the outdoors, David found joy in long walks and bicycle trail rides, often capturing the beauty of nature through his passion for photography. He was a talented artist with a keen eye for detail and a love for reading that kept him informed and engaged with the world around him. David was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and a generosity of spirit that endeared him to all who crossed his path.
David is predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Joan Shaw Bennett, and his niece, Amanda Sell Dull. He is survived by his nephew, Van James Getter of Kings, NC, and his cousins, Gordon Satterly, Diana Satterly Newman, Roger and Brenda Freed, Bud and Jane Freed, and Jim Bennett, all of whom will miss him dearly.
A service to celebrate David's remarkable life will be held on June 4, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Pine Forest Memorial Gardens Chapel, located at 770 Stadium Drive, Wake Forest, NC 27587. A graveside prayer will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David's memory to Grace Ministries USA, P.O. Box 111, Youngsville, NC 27596.
David will forever be in our hearts, and we know we will see him again. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for all the prayers and support received during this difficult time.
