David Bruce Bragg

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Bruce Bragg, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on July 29, 2026, at his home in Redding, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 18, 1948, in the cozy back bedroom of his family home in Sumner, Maine, David lived a life marked by love, laughter, and service. David was the cherished son of Thomas and Iva Bragg, who predeceased him along with his brothers Eddie, Tommy, Dicky, and Frankie, and his daughter Amy. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with his devoted wife of 56 years, Brenda, and their children: Betsey Williams and her husband David, Kelly Hooper and her husband Brian, and Randy Bragg and his wife Alyson. He was the proud grandfather of Joseph, Virginia, Emma, Jackson, Ryder, and Hadley. He survived by his sisters Rosie and husband Ed, Helen, Violet, Marie and husband Albert, Jenny and husband Robert, Lucy and husband Glen and his brother Chris and wife Erin. His joy extended to numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. David's journey with Brenda began on Halloween in 1970, and together they created a family he was proud of. They resided in Augusta while David pursued his studies at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), graduating with a degree in General Studies. Though he initially aspired to teach biology, his path led him to a fulfilling career in excavation, where he earned a stellar reputation for his meticulous work and integrity, transforming bare lots into beautiful homes. A proud veteran, David served with honor in the United States Marines from 1966 to 1968, where he bravely fought in Vietnam and was wounded at Khe Sanh, earning a Purple Heart for his valor. David found joy in hunting with the men in the family, fishing with his best friend Dennis, and boiling syrup with his brother Chris. David was a familiar face at races at the Oxford Plains Speedway (OPS) and a constant presence in his son Randy's life, accompanying him on countless adventures. He found immense happiness in the sporting achievements of his children and grandchildren. David will be remembered for his quick wit, warm smile, and the kindness and generosity that touched the lives of all who knew him. His humor lightened many hearts, and his presence will be dearly missed. A service to celebrate David's life will be held at 11:00 AM at the East Sumner Congregational Church, located at 50 Main St., Sumner, Maine. Following the service there will a commital with full military honors at Elm Wood Cemetery. Light refreshments to follow back at the church. David Bruce Bragg lived a life full of love and laughter, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
