It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of David Bernard Meldahl, who left this world peacefully on May 21, 2026 with loved ones by his side in Eagle Lake, Texas. Born on February 12, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dave’s journey through life was marked by service, dedication, and a boundless love for those around him.
Dave was the beloved son of Ted and Helen Meldahl, whose values of integrity and kindness he carried forward throughout his life. He is now reunited with them, his sister Janet Harness, and his cherished grandson, Zakk Brimage, in eternal peace.
A proud veteran, Dave served as a decorated officer in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974. His naval career was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his country and his fellow servicemen. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dave embarked on a long and storied career as a computer programmer that spanned four decades.
On December 27, 1980, in Houston, Dave married the love of his life, Jane Alley. Together, they embarked on an extraordinary journey of over 45 years, nurturing a family with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their enduring partnership was a beacon of devotion and strength, inspiring all who knew them.

His loving presence will be profoundly missed by his grandchildren who affectionately referred to Dave as their Grumpy: Taylor Long and husband Cole, Brett Brimage and wife Demi, Aryn Soliday and husband Justin, Colin Paschall, Brock Bailey and wife Abbie, Coy Ward, and Carson Meldahl. Each one held a special place in his heart, and he found immense joy in their accomplishments and happiness.

His stories and wisdom will echo in their lives, a testament to a grandfather who cherished every moment with them.
Throughout his life, Dave was known for his gentle spirit, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. His laughter was infectious, his kindness boundless, and his ability to connect with others truly remarkable. He leaves behind a legacy of love, reminding us all of the importance of family, the joy of laughter, and the power of a kind heart.
As we gather to celebrate Dave’s life, we remember not only the man who served his country but the husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was a blessing to all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
A private family service will be held to honor Dave’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a veterans' charity of your choice, in memory of Dave’s service and dedication.
Rest in peace, Dave. Your life was a testament to love, family, and service, and you will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you.
