David Allen
February 6, 1940 — June 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of David Allen, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. David peacefully departed this world on June 26, 2026, at the age of 86, after a courageous 14-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born on February 6, 1940, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, David graced this world with his gentle spirit and kind heart.
David was the beloved son of Bernice and Allen Radford, who predeceased him, along with his dear sister Bonnie. His life was a testament to resilience, love, and an ever-present smile that could light up any room. He often reminded us that "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met," and throughout his life, he embodied this sentiment, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
David’s journey began with his graduation from Bonne Terre High School in 1958, followed by service in the United States Army Reserves, where he cultivated a steadfast dedication to duty and community. Afterward, he embarked on a career that saw many facets, yet it was his venture into entrepreneurship that truly defined his professional life. Moving to Texas in 1979, David established a thriving business hanging wallpaper, where his unmatched craftsmanship and attention to detail earned him a reputation that spread solely by word of mouth. His hands created beauty, and his heart forged connections, making him a sought-after craftsman and a cherished friend to many.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was an artist at heart. His love for Westerns and the characters within them found expression through his remarkable drawings, each piece a testament to his artistic talent and passion. These works remain a cherished legacy, capturing the spirit of the Old West that he so adored.
David’s personal life was enriched by his 49-year marriage to Claudia, a union grounded in love and mutual respect. Together, they built a family that stands as a testament to their enduring bond. He is survived by his devoted wife Claudia, his loving children, Angie McDonald and her husband John, Van and his wife Fei, and Brian, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. David also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Emma McDonald and her husband Nicky, and Ian David, who will forever hold dear the memories of their grandfather’s warmth and wisdom.
David’s life was a tapestry of kindness, artistry, and unwavering love. His gentle nature and ever-present smile touched countless lives and his legacy will be felt in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the life he lived, the love he gave, and the memories he leaves behind.
In honor of David's life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to organizations supporting research into Lewy Body Dementia, so that others may benefit from advancements in understanding and treating this condition.
A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and love, just as David would have wanted.
Rest in peace, dear David. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
