David Alan Spaetzel

David Alan Spaetzel, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 65, after a period of declining health. Born on September 21, 1960, in Gary, Indiana, Dave was the cherished son of the late John and Helen Spaetzel, who predeceased him. Dave grew up in the Fox Hill area of Hampton, Va where he developed a love for all thing mechanical and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. His journey through life was marked by kindness, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved. On May 31, 1986, Dave married the love of his life, Marie Knapp. Together they shared 40 beautiful years of marriage—a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Dave was the heart of his family and is survived by his devoted wife, Marie. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Edwin J. Spaetzel & family, Michael J. Spaetzel & family, and Suzy Soley & family each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his loyal companions George & Pipper who will miss him terribly. A man of integrity and warmth, Dave had the unique ability to make everyone feel at ease in his presence. His laugh was infectious, and his compassion knew no bounds. Whether he was spending time with family, sharing stories with friends, or enjoying a quiet moment by the water, Dave lived life with a gentle grace that touched all who knew him. A service to honor and celebrate Dave's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Ware River Yacht Club, located at 5992 Ware Point Road, Gloucester, VA 23061. Friends and family are invited to gather and remember the joy and love that David brought into their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society's Fund in memory of Dave. His legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
