David McBurnie

June 6, 1945 — July 28, 2026

David McBurnie, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on June 6, 1945, in the picturesque town of Fort Fairfield, Maine, David was the cherished son of George and Hazel McBurnie. He was predeceased by his loving parents and his brothers, Robert, Dale, and Keith. Growing up in Fort Fairfield, David spent his formative years on the family’s potato farm, where he learned the values of hard work and dedication. These values propelled him through his education at the University of Maine and into a successful career with Agway, which eventually led him to Liverpool, New York. When Agway closed, David's expertise and commitment were recognized by Southern States, Agway's sister company, which brought him to Richmond, Virginia, until his retirement after 50 years of service. David was a man who greeted the world with a ready smile and a quick, witty comment for everyone he met. His warmth and humor made him a cherished figure in his community and workplace. Despite his professional success, it was David's heart for family and community that truly defined him. Alongside his devoted wife of 45 years, Kathy, David opened his heart and home to more than 70 foster children, offering them love and stability. A diehard Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, David shared his passion for sports with his family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. His legacy lives on through his three wonderful children: Steve McBurnie and his wife Lindsay, Mike McBurnie and his wife Michelle, and his daughter Kayla Rose McBurnie. David was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Lia, Dante & Nick. David's life will be celebrated on August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Passion Community Church, located at 50 Old Otterdale Rd, Midlothian, VA. As we gather to remember David, we are reminded of the joyful spirit he brought into our lives and the love he spread so generously. The McBurnie family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate hospice team, especially his nurse Karen, for their exceptional care and support during David's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Passion Community Church, a place that held a special place in David's heart. David's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
