Dave Wheeler
December 25, 1961 — June 4, 2026
It is with deep sadness and profound respect that we announce the passing of Dave Wheeler, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Dave departed this world on June 4, 2026, at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Born on December 25, 1961, in Ottawa, Illinois, Dave was a cherished Christmas gift to his parents, J Earl and Virginia Wheeler. He grew up in a home filled with warmth and love, qualities that he carried throughout his life. Dave graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1980, where he laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work, dedication, and a ceaseless pursuit of knowledge.
In 1986, Dave married the love of his life, Kelly Decker, on a beautiful day in May. Together, they embarked on a journey that spanned over 40 years, building a life rich with love, laughter, and countless adventures. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship, and their home was always open, filled with laughter and the smell of Kelly's home-cooked meals.
A man of many talents, Dave was truly a jack-of-all-trades. His career was as diverse as his interests, and he wore many hats throughout his life. From a journeyman lineman to a general manager of a Harley Davidson store, and from a heavy equipment operator to an equipment technician, Dave's professional life was a testament to his adaptability and skill. He tackled every challenge with enthusiasm and a commitment to excellence.
Dave was also a valued member of the Elks and enjoyed his time at the Tiskilwa and Walsenburg golf clubs. A die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, he proudly supported the Naval Academy football team and held season tickets for the Air Force Academy football games. His passion for sports was matched only by his love for the outdoors, where he indulged in hobbies such as woodturning with the Pueblo Wood Turners and gold prospecting with the Gold Prospectors Association of America.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Dave had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. He was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. His spirit of giving and compassion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife Kelly, his sister Mary Lou and her husband John Doogan, his brother-in-law Kyle and his wife Kathy Decker, and his nephews John Doogan, Christian Doogan, and Kameron Decker. He is predeceased by his loving parents, J Earl and Virginia Wheeler, and his dear niece, Cori Conklin.
In keeping with Dave's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Navy Seals Foundation, an organization that was close to Dave's heart.
Though he is no longer with us, Dave Wheeler's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His laughter, love, and generosity will continue to inspire us every day. Rest in peace, dear Dave. You will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
