In Loving Memory of David C. Seely
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of David (Dave) Seely, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, on May 20, 2026. Dave peacefully departed this world at Sandy Rehab, cradled in the presence of his grandson, Austin Seely. He fought a valiant battle with complications related to diabetes, embodying the strength and resilience that defined his remarkable life.
Born on June 21, 1947, in Modesto, California, Dave was the cherished son of Charles and Bobbie. He grew up amidst the warm sun and fertile fields of California, instilling in him a love for the outdoors that would become a cornerstone of his life. Dave was preceded in death by his loving parents, his brother Chet, and his son Tyson, all of whom he now joins in eternal peace.
Dave's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit and an infectious sense of humor. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, he possessed a work ethic that was unparalleled, always giving 150% to every endeavor. Some mistook his stern demeanor for rudeness, but those who knew him understood it was a reflection of his passion and integrity. He was a man who lived life on his terms, full of stories and laughter.
In 1977, Dave married the love of his life, Mary Cartwright, in a quaint ceremony in Reno, Nevada. Together, they built a beautiful life over 48 years, filled with love, laughter, and countless camping trips under starlit skies. Dave is survived by wife Mary, children Lajet, Rich (Dorrelyn), David, and Mike (Amber), sister Ann, and brother Doug. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 23, each of whom inherited his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors.
Dave's career as a truck driver was cut short in 1987 due to an industrial accident that resulted in the loss of his right arm. True to his humorous nature, Dave would often quip that Mary had caught his arm around a good-looking blonde and decided to cut it off. Despite this life-altering event, Dave persevered and excelled in various other jobs, finding particular joy in his role as a campground host alongside Mary.
His love for camping, fishing, and the great outdoors was rivaled only by his dedication to his family. Dave found peace and fulfillment surrounded by nature, sharing stories by the campfire, and creating cherished memories with his loved ones.
The Seely family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at St. Marks Hospital and Sandy Health and Rehab for their exceptional care and support during Dave's final days. Their kindness and dedication will forever be appreciated.
As we bid farewell to Dave, we do so with the comfort of knowing he is "forever in our hearts." His legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire us all.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held on a date to be announced, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of a life that touched so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Dave's memory.
Dave Seely, your journey may have ended, but your spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know you. Rest in peace, dear Dave, under the vast, open sky that you loved so much.
