With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dasan Robert Murry, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, who was born on January 5, 2000, in Chicago, Illinois. Dasan departed this life peacefully on April 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. His journey was marked by resilience and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege to know him.
Dasan was the cherished son of Denise Murry and Reginald Russell, who, along with his brothers Dyami, Dyson, and Dahmino, were the center of his world. His grandfather, Robert, and uncles Diondrea-Timeko and Daniel-Michelle, along with an extended family of stepbrothers, stepsisters, and close cousins, surrounded him with love and support. He was predeceased by his grandmothers, Fannie May, Lennie Ruth, Mary Ruth, and Eloise, as well as his grandfathers, Marshall, Walter, and Nathaniel, and his dear uncle, Douglas. Their memories lived on through Dasan, who carried their spirit and warmth.
Dasan was a proud graduate of Bremen High School, class of 2018, where he made lasting memories on the football field, showcasing his determination and teamwork. Whether working at Raising Cane's, Chick-fil-A, or most recently, Amazon, Dasan was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. He took pride in every role he assumed, always aiming to uplift those around him.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Dasan was born and raised in Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life and served as a source of comfort and strength for him and his family.
Dasan had a zest for life that was evident in his passions and interests. Cooking was his ultimate joy, and he was renowned for preparing meals that could feed an army, bringing people together over his delicious creations. Beyond the kitchen, he found joy in spending time with his family and friends, who were like brothers to him. His love for cars and his PlayStation 5 provided endless entertainment and connection with those he loved.
To know Dasan was to be embraced by his gentle smile and infectious spirit. Despite sometimes being a "hothead," he was known for his unwavering dedication to taking care of business.
