It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Daryl Sledd, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, on April 18, 2026, at the age of 65. Daryl passed away at his home, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. Born on July 15, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, Daryl was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him.
The beloved son of the late Theresa and Daryl Sledd Sr., Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, his stepchildren Nichelle, Charles, and Mary, and his grandparents, including his grandfather Charles Sledd Sr. (Gloria). His legacy of love and kindness will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Emma Morrison, whom he married on February 1, 2012. Together, they created a loving family, blending their lives and children with grace and unity.
Daryl was a proud father to his son, Benard Sledd, and embraced his role as a stepfather to Dorietta (Lawrence), Lea, and Roderick (Tanisha). As a grandfather to seven and great-grandfather to six, his heart was full of joy and pride for his wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daryl is also survived by his brothers, Giovonni and Byron Sledd, and his sisters, Chanita Jackson (David), Charrell Sledd, and Jasmine Sledd. His extended family includes a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were like family.
Daryl's early life was marked by his passion for basketball, a sport he excelled in during his time at Washington Elementary School in Maywood, IL, and later at Proviso East High School. His love for the game continued into adulthood, playing in neighborhood leagues and city tournaments. Beyond sports, Daryl was a lifelong learner, eager to acquire new skills. At the tender age of 11, he taught himself to drive, a testament to his adventurous spirit.
Music was another passion, and Daryl found joy in rapping and listening to his favorite tunes. Known for his impeccable style, he was rarely seen without his beloved Timberland boots, regardless of the season. With a heart for hospitality, Daryl pursued a career in the culinary arts, earning a certificate and working as a manager overseeing line cooks. His BBQ, renowned for its mouthwatering flavors, was a source of pride and delight for family gatherings.
Daryl's character was defined by humility, strength, and an unwavering commitment to family. Emma fondly recalls his ability to uplift her and teach her the values of love, independence, and perseverance. Despite life's challenges, Daryl remained a peacemaker, avoiding conflict and fostering harmony among those he loved.
The family extends a warm invitation to a celebration of Daryl’s life, to be held on April 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Arizona Cremation and Burial Services, located at 748 W Hatcher Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
