Daryl Heimerschmidt
January 29, 1909 — March 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daryl Heimerschmidt, a beloved family member, friend, and vibrant soul who graced this world for 117 remarkable years. Daryl departed from us on March 3, 2026, in the serene embrace of the Florida Everglades, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Born on January 29, 1909, in Houston, Texas, to John and Harriet Heimerschmidt, Daryl's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and an unwavering zest for life.
Daryl's journey began in the bustling city of Houston, but it was the lush landscapes of the Florida Everglades that truly captured his heart when his family relocated there during his childhood. He carried this love for the great outdoors throughout his life, finding peace and joy in fishing and sharing stories of his adventurous youth and World War II experiences.
Daryl's educational pursuits led him to Florida University, where he earned a degree in business, setting the foundation for a successful career. Known for his integrity and hard work, Daryl transitioned from his early days as a dairy farmer to become a pronounced businessman, respected and admired by many.
In 1929, Daryl married Larissa Devon, with whom he shared a rich tapestry of life experiences until their paths diverged in 1972. Despite their separation, Larissa remained a significant presence in his life. Together, they were blessed with a family that grew to include nine grandchildren, each a testament to the enduring legacy of their grandfather's love and wisdom.
Daryl served his country with distinction during World War II, a point of pride and a stark contrast to his brother Earl, who often fabricated tales of military valor. Despite Earl's antagonism, Daryl's heart brimmed with compassion and care for his brother, revealing the depth of his character and his capacity for unconditional love.
Daryl was a man of boundless enthusiasm and creativity. He founded the Sunny Side Acres Rest Home Disco Nights, bringing joy to many, and started a Lego Building Club, an endeavor that he pursued with passion, even if it was a solitary pursuit. His love for building Legos and his infectious happiness were emblematic of his optimistic and joyful spirit.
A service to honor Daryl's life will be held on March 11, 2026, at 2:45 PM at Sunny Side Acres Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lego Building for Seniors Association, a tribute to Daryl's lifelong love of creation and community.
In a final act of love and humor, Daryl left a special message for his secret crush, Linda, to receive his will, alongside proceeds for his grandchildren. His playful spirit shone through in his last message to Earl: "Earl... You smell."
Daryl Heimerschmidt's life was a radiant beacon of joy and kindness. He leaves behind a world made better by his presence and a family that will forever hold him in their hearts. May his memory continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know him.
