In Loving Memory

Darus Myron Haas
February 2, 1933 — June 20, 2026
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Darus Myron Haas, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Darus gracefully concluded his remarkable journey on June 20, 2026, at the age of 93, after a courageous battle with an illness. Born on February 2, 1933, in Vancouver, Washington, Darus embodied a life full of warmth, resilience, and unwavering love.
Darus was a humble yet proud serviceman, having served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. His dedication and commitment to his country were values he carried throughout his life, influencing all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Professionally, Darus was a man of many talents. He worked in the rugged landscapes of Alaska, assisting in the refueling of planes, and later found his calling at Fort Vancouver Plywood, where he retired in the mid-1990s. His work ethic and dedication were unparalleled, and he was respected and loved by his colleagues.
Beyond his career, Darus was an active member of the Moose Lodge, where he contributed his time and energy to bettering his community. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing, particularly at Neah Bay and Buoy Ten out of Ilwaco. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed hunting during his time in Alaska, and found peace in the quiet moments painting by numbers. Western movies were a particular joy for him, providing a window into the adventurous spirit he so admired.
Darus's personal attributes were as rich and varied as his life experiences. He had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, greeting each person with a warm smile and a kind word. Fiercely protective of his family, he loved with all his heart. Though soft-spoken, he carried a strength and determination that was unmistakable, never one to be a pushover but always fair and generous.
In May of 1971, Darus married Rachel, the love of his life, in a union that was the second marriage for both. Together, they raised her daughter Deborah, sharing a life imbued with love, good food, and abundant laughter. Rachel predeceased him after 36 years of marriage, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that Darus held dear. He was also predeceased by his third wife, Deliah.
Darus is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his son Jeff Haas and his wife Sandra; his cherished daughter Deborah Goodnight and her husband Kevin. He was a proud grandfather to Dana Tanner, Tory Poling and his wife Donna, and Rochelle Clay and her partner Kevin Felts, and a doting great-grandfather to Odeliah, Khaleesi, Kennedy, Kinsley, and Klarity. He also leaves behind his stepdaughter Gina and her wife Teresa, who held a special place in his heart.
As we bid farewell to Darus Myron Haas, we remember the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. His life was a testament to love, resilience, and the boundless joy of simple pleasures. Though he will be profoundly missed, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind.
A celebration of Darus's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, honor his memory, and continue the legacy of love and kindness that he so generously shared with the world.
