Darryl Gayden

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl Gayden, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Darryl peacefully departed this life on July 27, 2026, at the age of 65, surrounded by the warmth and love of family and friends, and the soulful sounds of the blues that he cherished so deeply. Born on December 23, 1960, in the vibrant city of Chicago, IL, Darryl was the son of the late Ernest and Ruby Jean Gayden, whose values and love shaped him into the remarkable man we all knew. His life was a testament to loyalty, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to family. Darryl's heart was as big as his laughter, and he never hesitated to share it with those he loved. Darryl shared a lifetime of love and companionship with his devoted wife, Rose Gayden. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, joy, and the aroma of good food. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Sheena, and sons Lil Darryl and Darnell, who were the pride and joy of Darryl's life. His fierce dedication to his family was evident in every facet of his being; he was their protector and their greatest supporter. An active member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Darryl found solace and strength in his faith and community. His presence there was a testament to his commitment to living a life of purpose and service to others. Darryl's zest for life was infectious. He loved to dance, especially to the blues, and he appreciated the simple pleasures of life—a good meal, the company of loved ones, and a nice cold beer. His generous spirit and love for those around him were felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings Helen, Christine, and Roy Lee; his treasured cousins Hattie, Jimmy, Shirley, Gloria, Marilyn, Augusta, Willie, and Darnell; and many second cousins. He was also adored by his sister-in-law Pierre, and nieces and nephews Frances, Steven, Georgio, Shavon, Latresa, Calease, Lil Phil, Ruby, Catrina, Zan, Diamond, Jenson, Jovon, Kyra, Santana, Solomon, and Elena. A celebration of Darryl's life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. The family invites all who knew Darryl to join them in honoring his memory and the joy he brought into their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in Darryl's name, as a tribute to his generous and loving spirit. Darryl Gayden's legacy of love, laughter, and music will forever resonate in the hearts of those he left behind. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories and the joy he brought into our lives, knowing that while he may have departed from this world, his spirit will live on in each of us.
