Darryl's journey began in the vibrant year of 1946, where he grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and the promise of a bright future. He attended John Marshall High School, graduating in 1963, where he was known for both his academic diligence and his infectious smile. His high school days were filled with cherished memories that he carried with him throughout his life.
After high school, Darryl answered the call of duty and served his country with honor in the U.S. Army for two years. His service was a testament to his character—brave, selfless, and committed to the greater good. Following his military service, Darryl embarked on a long, fulfilling career at A.O. Smith Corporation. Over 30 years, he dedicated himself to his work with the same passion and integrity that he brought to every aspect of his life, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Darryl's life was enriched by the love of his family and friends. He is survived by his loving son, Andrew, who was the light of his life, and his dear sister, Cindy Willarson, with whom he shared countless treasured moments. His former wife, Suzanne Pieper, remained a cherished friend and confidante throughout his life. Darryl's legacy also lives on through his numerous nieces and nephews, who were blessed by his wisdom and kindness.
Beyond his family, Darryl was blessed with the unwavering friendship of Jim Hoffman and Cal Preuss, whose bonds with him were as enduring as they were profound. These friendships were a testament to Darryl's loyalty and his innate ability to nurture connections that stood the test of time.
In his final days, Darryl was cared for by the compassionate team at Vitas Hospice. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to them for their extraordinary care and support, which provided comfort and peace during a time of need.
Darryl was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He lived his life with quiet strength and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. His gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and generous heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Darryl's remarkable life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Darryl's honor, keeping his spirit of kindness and generosity alive.
