It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Darrell Sheridan Tichinel, who departed this world on March 13, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 29, 1942, Darrell was a beacon of faith, love, and kindness, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Darrell was the cherished son of the late George and Juanita Tichinel. He was predeceased by his beloved siblings Elizabeth Paugh, Wanda Barnes, Genevieve Davis, Naomi Tichinel, and David Tichinel. Despite these losses, Darrell's spirit remained unyielding, drawing strength from his faith and the love of his family. For 61 remarkable years, Darrell was the devoted husband to his beloved wife, Phyllis. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they nurtured a family that continues to carry forth his legacy of faith and compassion. He is survived by his children, Darrell Steven (Jake) and wife Sherrie, Evangeline Laffey and husband Tim, Jeffrey and his late wife Elizabeth, and Ralph and wife Maria. Darrell was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. A man of unwavering faith, Darrell dedicated 45 years of his life to spreading the Gospel as a pastor across three churches in West Virginia. His mission was to guide others in their spiritual journeys and to love his community unconditionally. He also served diligently with the men's ministry of the Potomac District and provided many years of security at Camp Echo Church Camp, embodying a life of service and dedication. Darrell's life was rich with passion for the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting, fishing, and floating down the South Branch Potomac River. His hands were never idle; he was a skilled mechanic who found peace in fixing things for his community. Whether cutting wood, tending to the garden, or helping Phyllis care for their flowers, Darrell's life was a testament to hard work and love for the land. Known for his storytelling, Darrell's tales often ended in laughter, leaving those around him with smiles on their faces and warmth in their hearts. His love for travel and family adventures was ever-present, as was his heart for service, which took him overseas to build churches and touch lives far and wide. Darrell's family extends their deepest gratitude to the hospice team who provided compassionate care during his final days, ensuring his comfort and dignity. A viewing to honor Darrell's life will take place at Up Church Funeral Home in Fort Ashby on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm.
