Darrell Turcol

Darrell Turcol, a devoted family man, esteemed community servant, and proud veteran, has lived a life marked by dedication, love, and a deep sense of duty. Born on April 10, 1951, in Litchfield, IL, Darrell came into the world as a beloved son to Ray and Laura Turcol. He was raised alongside his siblings, Debra and Leslie, with whom he shared many cherished memories. Darrell's life was deeply rooted in service, beginning with his time in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Aboard the USS Basilone, a Gearing-class destroyer, Darrell and his crew bravely navigated the challenging waters off the Vietnamese coast. Their heroic efforts earned them three battle stars, a testament to their courage and dedication. After his honorable military service, Darrell returned to Hillsboro, where his commitment to protecting and serving others naturally extended into his career as a police officer. Over the course of 43 years as an officer, he spent 29 years of these as a respected figure in the Hillsboro Police Department, known for his fairness, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his community. Darrell's personal life was enriched by the love and partnership of his wife, Crystal, whom he married on June 27, 1981. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two daughters, Jamie Campbell and Melissa Flack. As a father, Darrell was a steadfast presence, offering unconditional love and support to his daughters. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Brett, Brendon, Brittany, Laurel, Kylee, and Cadence, and his great-grandchildren, Myla, Kinlee, Grayson, Kaisen, and Zayn. Known affectionately as Pawpaw, Darrell shared his love for the outdoors with his family, passing down his skills as an avid outdoorsman, gunsmith, and marksman. Darrell's life was one of dedication—to his country, his community, and his family. His resilient spirit and gentle wisdom left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though Darrell is predeceased by his wife Crystal, parents Ray and Laura, sister Debra, and brother Leslie, his legacy endures through the lives he touched and the memories he created. Darrell will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, a beacon of strength, love, and selflessness.
