Darrel K. Conn

November 2, 1942 — October 23, 2026

Darrel K. Conn passed away peacefully at Nichol Home on October 23, 2026. Born on November 2, 1942, in Beloit, Kansas, Darrel was a beloved son of Keith and Vesta Conn. His life reflected hard work and dedication for his family and community. A proud graduate of Randall High School in 1960, Darrel went on to pursue his passion for automotive mechanics at a trade school in Kansas City. This education laid the foundation for his long, fulfilling career with the Mitchell County Highway Department, where he worked for 30 years, skillfully operating the department's motor grader for the department and the Asherville and Plum Creek townships. In 1964, Darrel answered the call to serve his country by joining the National Guard, exemplifying his commitment to duty and community. This dedication extended to his role as a volunteer firefighter, which began in 1970 with the Jamestown station and continued at the Asherville fire station until 2020. Darrel married the love of his life, Rita Ryser, on September 2, 1974. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and shared experiences. Darrel's legacy continues through his five beloved grandchildren: Alex, Braydon, Sydnie, Seth, and Trace, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart. Beyond his professional and community commitments, Darrel found joy in simpler pleasures. An avid outdoorsman, he relished in racing, hunting, and fishing, passions he often shared with those he loved. His workshop was a sanctuary where he could tinker with old tractors, an activity that brought him great contentment. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Vesta Conn, and his beloved wife, Rita. He is survived by his brother Dennis (Sharon), sister Delores, his children, grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. A service to honor and celebrate Darrel's life will be held on November 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Robert's Family Funeral Service, located at 910 North Campbell, Beloit, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Mitchell County Rural Fire District 1, reflecting Darrel's lifelong commitment to his community. Darrel K. Conn will be remembered as a man of integrity, kindness, and unwavering dedication. His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
