It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darnell James Jr., a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on April 22, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on June 15, 1968, in Salem, New Jersey, Darnell was a man who embodied resilience and compassion, touching the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. Darnell was the cherished son of Irene Sorrell and the late Darnell James Sr. He shared a profound bond with his mother, siblings, and children, always striving to demonstrate his love and care. He is predeceased by his baby sister Shekera Sorrell, his grandmothers Clara Sorrell and Frances Moore, and grandfathers James A. Sorrell and Philip Ceasar. Though they have gone before him, their memories remained a guiding light in his journey. Educated in the school of life, Darnell proudly earned his GED and carried with him the lessons learned from both triumphs and trials. A man who fought many silent battles, he never openly shared his struggles but chose instead to express his heart with sincerity and warmth. To know him was truly to love him, as he was respected and admired for his mannerisms, humility, and above all, his unwavering loyalty. Darnell's lifetime was enriched by the enduring friendships he shared with Fondella and Dino, who stood by him as steadfast companions. Together, they wove a tapestry of memories that will forever be cherished by those who remain. In addition to his mother, Darnell is survived by his dear friend Shaquawnda, his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and loyalty. A service to honor and celebrate Darnell's life will be held on May 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bagwell Funeral Home, located at 131 S Broad St, Penns Grove, NJ 08069. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who gave so much of himself to others. Darnell James Jr. may not have been perfect, but his earnest efforts to show love and care left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. As we bid farewell, we hold on to the belief that his spirit will continue to guide us, as we cherish the moments shared and the love he freely gave. He will truly be missed, but his presence will forever remain in our hearts.
