January 14, 1960 — October 8, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Darlene Dillard on October 8, 2026. Born on January 14, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Darlene was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of Willie Mae Johnson and Clarence Mason, and she grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, Bernard Mason and James Mason. Darlene's life was a testament to nurturing and compassion. She was a devoted mother to her children, William Johnson, Lakisha Johnson, Felicia Johnson, and Henry Johnson, and a beloved grandmother to eight precious grandchildren: DeJah Burton, Treasure Key, Tianna Johnson, Kristian Johnson, Katelyn Jones, Sirr Jones, Kyle Holmes, and Kameron Holmes. Her love extended to her four great-grandchildren, Khalil Mealing, Zayden Mealing, Elijah Mealing, and Aylah Johnson, who were the light of her life. Her family, including many other dear relatives, was her greatest joy, and she delighted in spending time with each of them. Darlene was a woman of simple pleasures, with a love for murder mysteries, crossword puzzles, and game shows, especially when shared with her daughter. She found joy in playing cards and listening to music, and her laughter often filled the room, bringing smiles to those around her. Her nurturing spirit was evident in her work caring for many children in her younger years, and she was known for her deep love and kindness that touched everyone she met. A woman with a sharp mind, Darlene had a fondness for math, and she had a remarkable ability to solve problems and bring people together. Her family remembers her as a loving, caring woman whose love was unconditional and unwavering. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to guide her family as they move forward, strengthened by her memory. A service to honor Darlene's life will be held on October 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Mine Creek Baptist. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in keeping with Darlene's spirit of giving and kindness. In a heartfelt message from her family, they share: "There was never a question of if I loved you or you loved me. Your love was like the breath in my body, and I am fortunate to say I will never know what it's like to not have it. Whether I failed or succeeded, you loved me. And I know that before you took your last breath that you knew we all loved you just the same. I can hear your voice in my head saying, 'Y'all take care of each other now. Stick together.' And I am going to take this moment to say to our family what Grandma Darlene would want me to say. 'Don't let this tear y'all apart. Family is all that we have, so love each other and stick together. Take care of each other. Don't let me being gone stop you. Keep going; that's what I wanted. I wanted to see y'all live, and laugh, and love. Time goes on, life goes on, and my love for you will never end even if you can't see me.' And I want to end this by saying if you ever felt loved by my grandma, take some of that love and pass it on to somebody who needs it because that's what she would've wanted. Until we meet again, Grandma, I love you." Darlene Dillard's love and spirit will remain with us always, and her legacy will continue to inspire us to live with kindness, love, and compassion. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.
