In Loving Memory

Darci Michelle Detrich Bell
April 4, 1958 — May 28, 2026
Darci Michelle Detrich Bell, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on April 4, 1958, in Great Bend, Kansas, Darci was daughter of Norman Detrich and Patricia Sallee Young.
Darci's life was a melody of adventure and passion. Growing up in Kansas, Ohio, and Michigan, she inherited a love for travel and exploration that would shape her journey. Her father's work took their family to many places, instilling in Darci a curiosity and resilience that would later define her own path. She found her true calling in music, a gift that she shared generously with the world.
In 1984, Darci met Donnie Bell, with whom she discovered a profound musical connection. She embarked on a life of harmony, performing across the nation and even taking their talents to the high seas with Carnival Cruise Lines. Music was not just a career for Darci, but a realized dream that brought joy to countless fans and friends made along the way. After 20 years of enchanting audiences, she retired to a home in Tennessee. Darci later moved back to Kansas to be closer to her children and family.
Darci's love for music continued to echo in her heart despite her health challenges. Though she could no longer sing and play as she once did, her music lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have heard her. Especially her granddaughter Danica, who found her voice and love for music first hand from her Grammy Darci. If we listen closely now, perhaps we can hear Darci's voice and guitar wafting through the heavens, a reminder of her joyous spirit.
Darci's family was her greatest pride and joy. She leaves behind her estranged husband, Donnie Bell of Crossville, Tennessee; her devoted children, son Michael Hickman of Lakeview, Arkansas; daughters Michelle Detrich of New York, Christina "Dani" Chapman of Springtown, Texas, and bonus daughter, Keli Apodaca of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico; her beloved grandchildren, Samantha Ibarra of Pratt, KS, Mallory Hickman of Mountainside, Arkansas, and Danica Chapman of Springtown, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Wyllow, and Lukas Ibarra, all of Pratt, KS. She is also survived by her sister, D.Jo Stevens, and husband Garry of Great Bend, KS; her brother, David Detrich of Tucson, Arizona; and her step-fathers, Kenneth "Skip" Murdie of Garfield, KS, Lewis Young of Larned, KS, and step-mother, Mary Lou Detrich of Mio, Michigan. She was also very close to her niece, Rebecca Detrich of California; and two nephews, Tim Detrich of Newton, KS and Kelly Stevens of Great Bend, KS. Darci was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Daniel Detrich, whose memories she cherished deeply.
Her family and friends remember her as a beacon of energy and humor, a woman who, despite life’s challenges, always forged ahead with determination. Her adventures and the laughter she inspired will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her. She was spontaneous and definitely pushed the limits many times throughout her life. She always thought she was doing the right thing, even if it didn’t make sense to anyone else. It wouldn't surprise them if she suddenly climbed a tree, licked one of her kid's face, or remodeled a room by herself. Her vibrant spirit and talents touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy that will continue to resonate through the stories and memories of those she left behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where we will gather to share stories and honor the remarkable life she led. Those who wish to join the celebration are encouraged to contact the family for details. In lieu of a formal service, let us remember Darci as she was—a loving mother, a devoted friend, and an talented singer and musician whose life was a beautiful composition.
Rest in peace, dear Darci. Your song will never end.
