Danita Lynn Thornton, 55 of Atlanta, GA passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. In loving memory of Danita Lynn Thornton, who graced this world with her presence on February 14, 1971, in Peoria, Illinois. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Danita was born to Joseph and Aquila Thornton, who preceded her in death, along with her cherished daughter LaSasha Thornton, sister Joanne Thornton Humphrey, nephew Sean Brown, and her beloved grandparents, J.W. and Rosie Lee Page, and Harvey and Beatrice Thornton. Danita leaves to cherish her memories her loving children, three sons, Jerrill Thornton, Sapien Stapleton, Kanyon Thornton, two daughters, Felice Stapleton, and Kani Thornton, who will carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. She also leaves behind her sister, Athena Walker, and brother, Othello (Twinette) Jones, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles who will forever cherish her memory. Danita was a fun-loving, thoughtful and family-oriented person who welcomed others with kindness. She loved cooking and bringing family together for dinners. Known for her generous heart and willingness to make sure those around her had what they needed. Danita also enjoyed crocheting, fishing, playing cards and spending precious time with her children, nephews, and nieces. Her thoughtful nature and nurturing spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her. She will be truly missed. A celebration of Danita's life will be held on September 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Alfonso Dawson Mortuary, located at 3000 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30311. Pastor Dwayne Harris will officiate the service, which will honor Danita’s life and the many lives she touched. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown kindness, love, and offered prayers during this time of bereavement. In lieu of flowers, donations in Danita's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Danita Lynn Thornton's life was a testament to love, family, and kindness. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
