With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel Steven Kochel, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Dan passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68 years old. Dan was born on January 20, 1958, in Ames, Iowa, to James and Judy Kochel. From a young age, Dan displayed a natural talent for building and creating, a passion that would guide him throughout his life. After volunteering to serve his country during Operation Desert Storm, Dan returned home to continue his work as a master carpenter. His skill and dedication to his craft were unmatched, and he was a mentor to many who had the privilege to work alongside him. In 1998, Dan married his beloved wife, D'Ann Clem, on March 21. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their sons Jake and Zac, and daughter Ashley. Dan's grandchildren, Bentley, Scarlett, and Madison were the light of his life and brought endless joy to his days. Dan was also a man of unwavering loyalty and dedication, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. He was fiercely devoted to his family and friends and found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. An avid fisherman, Dan spent countless hours on Lake Francis in Minnesota, a place he fondly referred to as his "Happy Place." He also cherished the companionship of his loyal dogs, who were more than just pets—they were his best friends. Dan is survived by his loving wife, D'Ann, his children Jake, Zac, and Ashley, and his cherished grandchildren Bentley and Scarlett. He is also remembered by his mother, Judy Kochel, his sister Deanna Hiatt and her husband Mark, and his brother David Kochel and his wife Marisa. Dan was predeceased by his grandparents and his father, James Kochel, who he held dear in his heart. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support and love they have received during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, they kindly suggest donations to a charity of your choice, in honor of Dan’s generous spirit.
