In Loving Memory of Daniel Ray Fountain
With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Ray Fountain, on June 28, 2026, at his cherished home in Port Townsend, Washington, with his beloved wife, Debbie, by his side. Daniel was born on September 18, 1955, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Daniel was the beloved son of Clarence and Bette Fountain (Thacker). He is now reunited in eternal peace with his father, Clarence Edward Fountain, whose legacy Daniel carried forward with pride and dedication.
A devoted husband to Debra Hornburg for 45 wonderful years, Daniel's life was a testament to love, commitment, and family values. He and Debbie were married on March 21, 1981, and together they raised three remarkable children who were the pride and joy of his life: Kalie Fountain, Gabriel Fountain (Karla), and Jeremiah Fountain (Molly Vieira). He was the cherished grandfather to five grandchildren—Ellaina, Orlando, Oliver, Apollo, and Atlas—who brought immense joy and laughter into his days. This legacy of love extends to his great-granddaughter, Everleigh Lynn, who carries forward his spirit and warmth.
Daniel's journey through education began at Port Townsend High School, where he graduated in 1974, and continued at Eastern Washington University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Athletic Coaching and Physical Education in 1983. His passion for teaching and coaching led him to a fulfilling career with the Port Townsend School District, where he worked from 1985 to 2000. Daniel was not just a teacher and coach; he was a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration for countless young lives, including his own sons and nephews, who had the privilege of being coached by him.
A man of deep faith and devotion, Daniel was a proud member of the Port Townsend Seventh Day Adventist Church. His unwavering belief in God was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with peace and strength. He was known for his infectious humor, his ability to make those around him laugh, and his knack for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. His children lovingly kept a notebook of his most memorable jokes and funny quotes, a testament to the joy he brought into their lives.
Daniel's love for football and his dedication to the Port Townsend Redskins were legendary. Guiding young athletes and watching them grow into confident individuals was his true calling, and nothing brought him more happiness.
A service celebrating Daniel's incredible life will be held on September 20, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Port Townsend Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Port Townsend Athletic Association, a cause close to Daniel's heart.
The Fountain family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to TJ Miller and his family of Glasgow, Montana. TJ's selfless gift of organ donation 26 years ago gave us the gift of more time with Daniel, a blessing for which we are eternally grateful.
Daniel Ray Fountain's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. We celebrate a life filled with laughter, love, and an unyielding faith, and we find solace in knowing that he is now at peace, watching over us with his infectious smile.
