It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel E. Wojnowski Sr., who departed this world peacefully on July 24, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on January 6, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, Dan lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to others. He was the beloved son of Edward and Eva Wojnowski and is now reunited with his sister, Nancy Raduha, who predeceased him. Dan's life was a tapestry of cherished memories, profound accomplishments, and enduring relationships. He grew up in a family where humor was abundant, earning his father the nickname "Funny Ed," a legacy of laughter that Dan carried forward with pride. His education began at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Grammar School and continued at Holy Trinity High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and two Master's degrees from National Lewis University, laying a strong foundation for his lifelong career in education. Dan married the love of his life, Karen K. Lee, on August 7, 1971, at the Buckley First Methodist Church in Buckley, Illinois. Their union, celebrated with a reception in the church hall and at the Lee Farm, marked the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Karen remains to cherish his memory, along with their sons, Danny and Joseph Wojnowski, and two adored grandchildren. A dedicated educator, Dan taught for two years in Palatine, Illinois, and for the United States Air Force. His passion for teaching continued in School District 25 in Arlington Heights and at Saint Mary's of the Annunciation in Mundelein, Illinois, where he taught various subjects, including Physical Education, Religion, Literature, and U.S. History. His love for teaching also extended to the Amish community in Ohio and as a CCD teacher at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Beyond his professional life, Dan was an active and committed member of his community. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Fraternity and held several offices in the Mundelein/Libertyville Men's Garden Club. His contributions included roles as an officer on the Saint Mary's Church Board and a board member of both the Lake County Agriculture Extension Board and the Gallaudet Parents Advisory Council. Dan's love for golf led him to work at the White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills for twenty years, and he also served as a volunteer director for the USGA United States Golf Association. Dan's passions extended to the great outdoors, a testament to his career as a Physical Education teacher. He cherished golfing, even though he humorously admitted to not playing well, and took pride in teaching his wife Karen, who became an impressive fourteen handicap player. He loved fishing and hunting, camping across every state in the Union and province of Canada with his family. His adventures included bagging two moose while working in Newfoundland and catching every species of fish in Florida. Fluent in American Sign Language and conversant in Polish, Dan had an innate gift for connecting with others. He was known for his ability to engage in meaningful conversations on any topic, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. In honor of Dan's life, donations can be made to the Order Of The Holy Cross in Carrollton, Ohio. Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we celebrate the legacy of a life well-lived, and Dan's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His contributions to education, community, and family leave an indelible mark, and his spirit of kindness and humor will continue to inspire us all.
