Daniel Francis Thesman, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home on September 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 16, 1949, in Bakersfield, California, Dan lived a life full of warmth, dedication, and resilience. The son of Daniel and Jackie Thesman, both of whom predeceased him, Daniel grew up in a close-knit family alongside his siblings Mary Kathleen (Kathy), Debra, and Dana. His strong familial bonds continued throughout his life, deeply influencing his own family values and aspirations. Daniel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where his steadfast commitment to service and duty was evident. His contributions extended beyond his active service, as he remained passionately involved with projects at the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, a place of honor where he will also be laid to rest. After his military service, Daniel's life was marked by his devotion to his family. Though he and his spouse, Sharon Thesman, later divorced, they shared the joy of raising their two sons, Daniel and David. Dan cherished his role as a father, always providing guidance, support, and unconditional love. His legacy of kindness and wisdom continues through his grandchildren, Alyssa and Nathan, who were a source of immense pride and joy. Daniel faced life's challenges with courage and grace, including the trials of health issues following a lung transplant nearly four years ago and his brave battle with cancer. His strength and resilience during these times were a testament to his enduring spirit and unwavering determination. A celebration of Daniel's life will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 1:15 p.m. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, located at 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, CA. Family, friends, and all whose lives Daniel touched are warmly invited to attend and honor his memory. Daniel will be profoundly missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
