Dale Theodore Jurgens

Dale Theodore Jurgens of Dickinson, ND, passed away peacefully on the 22nd of July, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on January 24, 1938, in Richardton, ND, Dale was the beloved son of Fred and Edna Jurgens, both of whom predeceased him. He spent his final moments surrounded by love, with his daughter and cherished CNA, Kyra Kessel, by his side. Dale's journey through life was marked by love and dedication to his family and community. He married the love of his life, Sunda Walton, on January 17, 1958. Their union, filled with warmth and devotion, lasted until Sunda's passing on January 7, 2007. Together, they built a family rooted in love, and Dale remained a pillar of strength for them all. He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Barbara Walton; son, Dustan Jurgens; and grandsons, Jeffrey Jurgens and James Gunwall. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his surviving family members: his son, Cary (Jerri) Jurgens, and daughter, Patti (Todd) Burwick. His sister, JoAnn (Clint) Pfennig, also remains to cherish his memory. Dale's life was further enriched by his grandchildren, Dan (Jess) Jurgens, Travis Jurgens, Jessica (Jeremy) Stocker, Laken (Dylan) Moore, Dylan (Tayla) Burwick, Autumn Schmidt, Sam Garfield, Alameta Garfield, and Bobby Garfield. He was also blessed with the joy of 26 great-grandchildren. Dale's journey in education began with his graduation from Taylor, ND High School in 1956. He worked with unwavering dedication for the BNSF Railroad starting in 1958, initially as part of the section crew. His career took him across Montana before he returned to Mandan, ND, and eventually settled in Dickinson, where he served as a Signal Maintainer until his retirement in 2003. Throughout his life, Dale was an active member of his community, proudly belonging to both the Dickinson Eagles and the Elks Club. His passion for antiques saw him traveling to auctions and antique stores, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Dale cherished the simple pleasures of life: sharing a cold beer with friends and family, listening to classic country music, and cheering on his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers, whether he was traveling to San Antonio, Seattle, Canada, Michigan, or Green Bay itself. Dale's spirit was characterized by his great sense of humor, honesty, and generosity. His infectious laughter and kind heart earned him countless friendships, which he valued deeply. A celebration of Dale's life will be held on August 28, 2026, at Stevensons Funeral Home in Dickinson, ND. Services will commence at 10:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a charity of your choice in Dale's memory, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to community service. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dale's friends, including Lonny and Dawn Naminuk, Arnie and Sue Kopp, and Kyra Kessel, for their unwavering support. Special thanks to Roger RN Unit Manager and his staff at St. Luke's Home, particularly the "therapy girls," who brought joy and treats to Dale during his rehabilitation. Dale will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
