Dakota James Boyd
January 17, 1992 — September 9, 2026
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dakota James Boyd, who departed this world on September 9, 2026. Born on January 17, 1992, in Longmont, Colorado, Dakota was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him.
Dakota was a cherished son to James C. Boyd and the late Brenda Sue Martin. He was raised in a loving family, surrounded by his father, siblings Ross Shipshock, Angel Shipshock, and Harley James Boyd, and step-sisters Michele Boyd and Jenny Evanyo, along with her husband Michael. His son, Cael James Boyd, was the pride and joy of his life. Dakota's extended family, including Uncle Dustin, Aunt Bobbi Ann Walden, cousins Nayte and Jayde, and grandmother Gayle "Gramma Mac" Jacketta, were an integral part of his life. He was also a beloved uncle to nieces Lilly, Braden (Hunter), Jaylen, and nephew Jonathon. Dakota was predeceased by his mother, Brenda Sue Martin, and his maternal grandparents, Ross and Gloria Martin.
Dakota's journey in education began in Mead for middle school and continued at Skyline High School. He later graduated from college as a personal fitness trainer, earning his credentials from the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). His passion for fitness and sports led him to work at Whatever it Takes Fitness, Loveland Fitness Club, and Gold's Gym. His career was marked by his commitment to health and fitness, and he was known for his dedication as a football coach for area high schools and as an assistant coach for the NoCo Nightmare, a semi-professional football league he founded in 2017. Dakota's love for football was unmatched, and his achievements on the field, including a state championship in wrestling and a championship win with the NoCo Nightmare in 2019, were sources of immense pride.
Dakota's life was a testament to his generosity and kindness. He was the first person to offer help and could light up any room with his infectious smile and warmth. His volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, where he brightened the days of young patients, exemplified his compassionate spirit.
