In Loving Memory of Mark
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, known to all simply as Mark Sr. Born on June 26, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dad left this world peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Although his final years were marred by physical pain and frequent hospital visits, his indomitable spirit and zest for life never wavered.
Dad was born to John Vernon Peters and Frances Agnetta (Haas) Peters and was predeceased by his cherished parents and his brother, John Peters. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Nowita (Weet) Peters, with whom he shared a remarkable journey of love and resilience. Their love story, which began in 1974, was punctuated with reunions and triumphs, culminating in a third and lasting marriage in 2010.
His legacy lives on through his children, Mark and Heather Peters, John and Kelly Longsdorff, and Troy and Cherie' Grego; his siblings, Loy Tingley and David Peters; and his grandchildren, Courtnee and Nick, Drew and Allison, Coltyn and Reilly, Levi and Kristina, and Weston. Dad's legacy extends to six beautiful great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit and love.
Dad's professional life was as varied and vibrant as his personality. A skilled mechanic and electrician, he worked in numerous roles, including at a gas reactor and on production lines during the silicon boom in the Bay Area. Even during his darkest days, he was known as the "official junkyard dog," using his talents to fix engines while battling addiction. Sober since 1988, Dad transformed his life and became an EMT in Alaska, eventually dedicating himself to counseling others through their struggles with addiction.
An active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Dad and Mom were pillars of the community, offering their home and hearts to those in need. They initiated a 10 o'clock AA meeting at the Club in Kennewick, a beacon of hope for many. Their faith journey led them to the Pasco Church of the Nazarene, where Dad was a cherished member, particularly known for his work with the youth group.
Dad's passions were as diverse as his careers. He found solace and excitement in his blue pontoon boat and motorhome, relishing the freedom they afforded him. His love of trains was evident in the model sets he meticulously crafted, and his whimsical Christmas decorations brought joy to all who saw them.
Those who knew Dad will remember his humor and wit. His love for Monty Python and playful antics with his children were legendary. His sarcasm and sometimes colorful language were balanced by a heart full of love and generosity. As Pastor Dan once quipped, "you could make a pastor swear!"
A celebration of Dad's life will be held on June 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Pasco Church of the Nazarene, located at 7305 W. Court St, Pasco, WA. The family extends a special message to all who mourn his loss: "Now there is no suffering. Now there is no more pain..."
Dad's life was a tapestry of triumph, humor, love, and redemption. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, forever cherished in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
