Cynthia S. Lawson-Dampier

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Cynthia S. Lawson-Dampier, a beloved wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Cynthia departed this life on April 8, 2026, at the age of 67, surrounded by love at ET York Haven Hospice, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and boundless love. Born on October 16, 1958, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Cynthia was the daughter of Ernest Smith and Barbara Martin. She was a spirited and loving soul, whose life was a testament to the power of compassion and generosity. Her parents and sister, Nancy, preceded her in death, and she is lovingly remembered by her surviving family, including her devoted husband, Steve Dampier, with whom she shared a beautiful life and a recent marriage on March 28, 2026, at their home in Gainesville, Florida. Cynthia's family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn, and son-in-law, Ben Parrish, of Hollister, Florida; her stepdaughter, Heather, and son-in-law, Christopher Festo, of Archer, Florida; and her stepson, Steve Dampier, and Danielle Rich of Branford, Florida. Her legacy of love continues through her brothers, Errol Smith of Stow, Maine, Gary Smith and Eric Smith of Fryeburg, Maine, and Dan Smith of Dover, New Hampshire. A grandmother to ten grandchildren—Lauren Gertschitz, Courtney Lawson, Brianna Lawson, Sydney Sullivan, Eryn Parrish, Josiah Parrish, Lily Festo, Abigail Festo, Darrin Dampier, and Kendal Dampier—Cynthia cherished each moment spent with them, as well as her five great-grandchildren, Paisley Stotsenburg, Keaton Gertschitz, Greysen Niemiec, Wyatt Cain, and Jackson Cain. Her family, including numerous nieces, nephews, and extended loved ones, was her heart and soul. Cynthia was a proud graduate of Interlachen High School, class of 1976. Her career as a Client Services Representative culminated in a fulfilling tenure with the University of Florida Pediatric School of Dentistry, from which she retired in 2023. Her professional life was marked by dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to helping others. A devout member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hawthorne, Florida, Cynthia's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her involvement in the church community brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Cynthia's passions were as vibrant and diverse as her personality. She was an avid lover of automobile racing, finding excitement and camaraderie in the sport. She cherished time spent outdoors, whether in her garden or on adventures traveling with her beloved Steve. Her talents as a baker and cake decorator were renowned among friends and family, with her creations often being the centerpiece of gatherings. Those who knew Cynthia will remember her for her remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness and generosity were gifts she freely shared, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit and loving heart. In accordance with Cynthia’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate her life. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered support and love during this difficult time. Though Cynthia has left this world, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. May her memory be a blessing and a source of inspiration to all who loved her.
