It is with profound sorrow and hearts full of cherished memories that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Cynthia L. Patton Prater, aged 64, on April 26, 2026. Cynthia was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose sparkling spirit touched all who had the honor of knowing her. Born on December 8, 1961, in the close-knit community of Martin, Kentucky, Cynthia was the cherished daughter of the late Allen Patton Jr. and Evelyn Mae Shepherd Patton. She was raised in a home filled with love and laughter, values that she carried throughout her life and imparted to her own family. Cynthia was a proud graduate of Allen Central High School, Class of 1979, where she forged lifelong friendships and cultivated her passion for learning. On December 23, 1982, she married her soulmate, Jeffery Prater, in a heartfelt ceremony in Floyd County, Kentucky. Together, they crafted a family and a life brimming with love and joy. Their union was blessed with two wonderful sons, Daniel Kayne Prater and Daryl Prater, who were the light of her life. Cynthia's life was a testament to the beauty of kindness and compassion. Known for her big heart and sweet personality, she was a devoted friend to many and a fierce advocate for animals, embodying a love for all living creatures. Her passion for nature was evident in her avid hiking adventures and the simple pleasure she found in her daily walks around her hometown, often accompanied by her dearest friend, Beverly Meadows. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a pillar of strength and a beacon of warmth. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Daniel and Daryl, her precious grandchild who brought immense joy to her days, and her treasured siblings: four brothers, Michael Patton, Darrell Patton, Rodney David Patton, and Elvis Ray Patton, and four sisters, Billie Goble, Margie Slone, Veronica Moore, and Angela Patton. Cynthia was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Jeffery, her brothers Phillip Allen Patton and James Patton, and her sister Brenda Sue Crager. Their spirits will surely welcome her with open arms. In this time of grief, Cynthia's family finds solace in their memories of her unwavering love and gentle spirit. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be loved beyond measure. As per Cynthia's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held for close family members. The family appreciates your understanding and asks for privacy during this time of mourning. Cynthia's legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to a local animal shelter or nature conservation organization, causes that were near and dear to her heart. Rest in peace, sweet Cynthia. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
