Cynthia Bailey

August 27, 1937 — October 7, 2026

The world lost a remarkable soul with the passing of Cynthia Bailey on October 7, 2026. Born in the lush and vibrant landscape of St. Ann, Jamaica, on August 27, 1937, Cynthia's life was a tapestry of kindness, love, and resilience. Cynthia was the cherished daughter of Voila Barnett and Caral Cowan. Her early education began at Turnberry Primary School in Middlesex, where she laid the foundation for a life of learning and service. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to study Domestic Science at Guy’s Hill, and later, she further honed her skills in England at the prestigious Wilfred Beaty Academy, earning a Certificate in Beauty Studies. In 1967, Cynthia married her beloved Edward Bailey in London, England. The couple shared a beautiful and enduring partnership, first calling London their home before moving to the United States in 1980. They settled in Brooklyn, New York, where Cynthia's genuine love for people and her unique, soothing voice won her many friends and admirers. After Edward's passing in 2000, Cynthia retired and moved to Miami to be near her sister Hermine. Cynthia's life was defined by her generosity and warmth. Her home was always open, a place where friends and family gathered to share in her love and laughter. She was a woman of immense kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word to those in need. Her legacy of compassion and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. In June of 2026, Cynthia returned to her roots, moving back to her beloved Jamaica. She spent her last months in the serene embrace of Castle Kelly, St. Ann, where she found peace and joy in the familiar sights and sounds of her birthplace. Cynthia is predeceased by her husband Edward, her parents, and her sisters Lucille Lynch, Joyce Thomas, and Hermine Grant. While her passing leaves a profound void, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched. A service to honor Cynthia’s life will be held on November 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church in Blackstonedge, St. Ann. Following the service, Cynthia will be laid to rest in the family plot at Castle Kelly. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. George’s Anglican Church. Cynthia Bailey will forever be remembered as a beacon of love and light, a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure through the love she shared and the lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Cynthia Bailey welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
