Curtis Vaughn

November 8, 1961 — July 31, 2026

Curtis Vaughn, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on November 8, 1961, in the vibrant city of Chicago, IL, Curtis was the beloved son of Evamae Vaughn, who survives him. Curtis was a man of many talents and passions. Educated through the Chicago public school system, he went on to pursue a trade in business, becoming the first in his family to start his own lawn mowing business. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication were evident throughout his career. Curtis wore many hats, initially working in a warehouse before finding his true calling at the Cedar Park Cemetery, where he served with dedication and love. Family was the cornerstone of Curtis's life. He was a devoted husband to Yolanda Vaughn and a proud father and grandfather, blessed with seven grandchildren who were the light of his life. Curtis had a special bond with his siblings, cherishing every moment spent in their company. His love for his family extended into his hobbies, where he found joy in cooking, hosting barbecues, and organizing lively card parties that brought everyone together. A man of faith, Curtis dedicated 12 years to being a member of Mt. Mariah Church before joining Manuel Memorial Baptist Church, where he continued his spiritual journey and formed lasting friendships. Curtis's legacy will be celebrated and remembered in a service held on September 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Manuel Memorial Baptist Church, located at 901 West 66th Street. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the life of a man who touched so many hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Curtis's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, continuing his spirit of giving and compassion. The Vaughn family, particularly Yolanda, wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out with calls, texts, prepared meals, prayers, and comforting hugs during this difficult time. Curtis's warmth and kindness will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

I’m Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now; He set me free.
