In Loving Memory
Curtis James Horn
April 9, 1951 — March 27, 2026
Curtis James Horn, a cherished husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a beloved friend to many, gently departed from this world on March 27, 2026, less than two weeks shy of his 75th birthday. His passing at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio was unexpected, leaving a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on the 9th of April, 1951, in Sandusky, Ohio, Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Effie Horn and an older brother Gary. Sandusky was more than just Curtis's birthplace; it was the foundation of his life’s journey, a place he continued to tether himself to through family and community.
Growing up near the shores of Lake Erie, Curtis developed a lifelong passion for fishing, finding peace and joy in the gentle lapping of waves and the thrill of a catch. This love for the outdoors was matched only by his fervor for his favorite basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, whose games he watched with unyielding loyalty.
A proud graduate of Sandusky High School, class of 1969, Curtis found his calling in a long and devoted career at Celotex in Port Clinton, where his dedication and craftsmanship were appreciated for over four decades. His commitment to his work was only rivaled by his devotion to his family, a testament to his steadfast character and generous spirit.
In 1973, Curtis found his soulmate, Joan Williams and was blessed with 47 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family, and today, she, along with their three children, a daughter, Tanya, two sons, Curtis James Jr., and Brian are left to mourn his passing. He also leaves behind one granddaughter, Anosti (who he loved with all his heart) two sisters; Deborah Smith, Marilyn Horn, three sister-in-laws Debra (David) Vance, Karen Williams, Cheryl Williams, one brother in-law Kevin Williams and a host of nieces and nephews.
Curtis will be remembered for his annual family fireworks show, which was a testament to his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and his desire to bring wonder and happiness to those around him.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Firelands Hospital for their dedicated care and kindness during Curtis's final moments. Your compassion is deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Curtis's life will be held on April 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM (viewing) and 1:00 PM (service) at Toft Funeral Home. At this time, we invite all who knew and cherished him to join us in honoring his life at Toft Funeral Home, located at 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870
