May 30, 1946 — March 24, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Cristino Rios Texeira, who departed this world on March 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Cristino was born on May 30, 1946, in the picturesque town of Jayuya, Puerto Rico, to Cristino Rios Reyes and Edelmira Texeira Marrero, who predeceased him. Cristino's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and dedication. He was a devoted husband to Maria S. Mendez Rios, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of over 52 years, having wed on January 2, 1974, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Together, they built a life rich in love and filled with family, laughter, and cherished memories. Cristino was the beloved father to five wonderful children: Militza Vazquez, Cristino Rios, Carlos David Rios (Esperanza Rios), Suhail Christina Velez (Frank Velez), and John Christian Rios (Stefanie Rios). His unwavering love and support for his family were the cornerstones of his life. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Angel Fabian Orozco, Sarah Christina Orozco, Aurelie Damaries Strata, Suhail Michelle Rios, Lorraine Christina Rios, Christopher Rios, Andrew Frank Velez, Joshua Frank Velez, Gavin John Rios, and Aubrey Marie Rios, and his great-grandchildren, A.J. Orozco, Mateo Orozco, Janeth Xiomara Orozco, Naia Renta, Joshua Mendez Rios, and Mathew Sulard, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. Cristino is also survived by his loving siblings: sisters Judith, Maria C., Dora, Aurora, Edelmira, Ines, Paula, and his brother, Ramon Rios. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. A merchant for over 40 years, Cristino was known for his integrity, dedication, and the genuine care he extended to all who crossed his path. His work ethic was matched only by his love for life's simple pleasures. He was an avid baseball enthusiast, with a particular fondness for the Chicago Cubs. A true prankster at heart, Cristino had an infectious sense of humor that brightened the lives of everyone around him. His love for his native salsa music, especially the melodies of El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico, filled his home with rhythm and joy. He also found delight in comedy and the timeless tales of John Wayne westerns. Above all, Cristino adored his family and friends, always willing to lend a helping hand and share in their joys and sorrows. His legacy of love and laughter will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. In his final days, Cristino was cared for with compassion and warmth by the staff at Park Place in Belvidere, IL. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their dedicated care during this time. In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Cristino's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Cristino's memory may do so by celebrating the love and laughter that he so generously shared with the world. Cristino Rios Texeira's journey may have come to an end, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we bid farewell, we remember a man whose life was a testament to the beauty of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family. Rest in peace, dear Cristino.
