Craig Thompson

January 31, 1952 — March 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Thompson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Craig peacefully departed this world on March 9, 2026, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 74 years old. Born on January 31, 1952, in the quaint town of Grinnell, Iowa, Craig was the cherished son of the late Harold and Marjorie Thompson. From a young age, Craig exhibited a genuine appreciation for the simple joys in life, a trait that would characterize his years and leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Craig dedicated his professional life to the craft of machining, working with steadfast commitment and expertise at Fisher Controls. His diligence and craftsmanship were respected by colleagues and marked him as a trusted member of the team. His work was not just a means of earning a livelihood but a testament to his dedication and pride in contributing to something greater than himself. Beyond his professional endeavors, Craig was a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) of Marshalltown. His involvement with the UAW was a reflection of his belief in solidarity and the power of collective effort. He found purpose and camaraderie in working alongside fellow members to uphold the rights and dignity of workers everywhere. Craig's passions extended well beyond the workplace. He was a devoted vegetable gardener, often found tending to his garden with care and enthusiasm. His love for flowers added a splash of color and life to every season, and he took great joy in sharing his beautiful blooms with family and friends. Craig's mornings were often marked by the comforting routine of sharing coffee with friends, where laughter and stories flowed as freely as the cups were filled. These gatherings were a treasured part of his day, offering warmth and fellowship. An adventurer at heart, Craig found freedom in the open road while riding his motorcycle. The wind in his hair and the hum of the engine beneath him provided a perfect backdrop to his reflections and musings on life. Those who rode alongside him knew the joy of his companionship and the depth of his wisdom. Craig's legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Linda Thompson, who stood by his side through every chapter of life. He leaves behind his loving children, Emily (Mark) Walker and Jason (Sarah) Thompson, who will forever cherish the lessons and love imparted by their father. His grandchildren, Lily and Max, were the light of his life, and he delighted in watching them grow and thrive. Craig is also survived by his dear brother, Thomas (Nancy) Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews who held him in high regard. In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the memories and love that Craig bestowed upon us. His life was a testament to kindness, integrity, and the beauty of simple pleasures. As we say our final goodbyes, we remember Craig not just for the life he lived, but for the love he gave. A celebration of Craig's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Craig's memory, to continue his legacy of kindness and care for others. Rest in peace, dear Craig. Your spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of our lives.
