Craig was born on November 2, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Vern and Helen Dean. He was cherished by his parents and shared a special bond with his brother, Paul Dean, who predeceased him. Craig's early years in Kansas City were filled with curiosity and a yearning for knowledge, which led him to pursue higher education with distinction. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and furthered his education with an MBA from the University of Chicago. Craig served his country with dedication, spending six years as an air traffic controller with the Minnesota Air National Guard. His service was a reflection of his commitment to duty and excellence. Craig's professional journey was marked by success and integrity in the field of investment management. Over the years, he worked with several esteemed institutions including Northern Trust Bank, Alliance Capital, Stein Roe and Farnham, and concluded his illustrious career at Loomis Sayles. He managed pension funds, union retirement funds, religious funds, and specialized in fixed income, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. In 1972, Craig married the love of his life, Carol Dean, and together they raised a wonderful family in Naperville, Illinois. Their union was a beautiful tapestry of love and partnership that spanned over 54 years. Craig is survived by his devoted wife Carol, his loving children Allison (Adam) Schmitt, Scott (Amy) Dean, and Shawn (Anne) Dean, and his adored grandchildren Aiden, Anderson, Colin, Kelsey, Henry, Charlie, and Amelia. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Craig was a man of many interests. He was an avid reader with a passion for history, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Vikings and Minnesota Gophers. His friends and family cherished his sense of humor, quick wit, and warm smile. Craig had a gift for storytelling, and he loved sharing tales that brought laughter and warmth to everyone around him. His kindness and generosity were a beacon of light, making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and connected. In honoring Craig’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate his remarkable life. Though he is no longer with us, the legacy of his kindness, humor, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Craig's memory to the American Diabetes Association, a cause close to his heart. Craig Randall Dean will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
